no my friend, ek9 is not the same as a civic "dx"

user B16A2 had it right i believe.

but to add to his answer

EK4 = JDM Civic 3Door (hatchback) SiR = B16A, also the JDM Civic 4Door (Sedan) Fiero Si (also Fiero Si II) = B16A as well.

EK9= JDM Civic 3 Door (hatchback) type-r = B16B.

a regular civic hatchback (United States Domestic Market) Civic HB, DX or CX (96-00) is the EJ6. and comes with the D16Y7 motor. which is really nothing in comparision to the B16's in the ek4 and ek9.

if you wanted the most performance with a stock civic 96-00 i would get the EK9 JDM Civic Type R with the B16B.

all 3 look similar but are different motors.

emm no. EK9 is the jdm spec hatchback. (from 96 till 00). Comes with the b16b engine.. 180hp.

Ek4 is the same shape hatchback... but underneath is not quite the same.. the suspension and chasis are less stiff. Brakes softer as well, Ek4 comes with B16A or B16A2 engine... (170 - 160 hp). Still preatty fast I have to say... and b16 is perfect for tuning. (thats what I have)

best of luck (is waaaay expensive...)

If you go with 1995 or older I would look for a civic ex or a delsol because they have the d16z6 engine,which is a sohc v-tech motor but mods are cheaper because of single cam but still can make huge power

Get the EK4 my friend. Then turbo it in the near future.
