first thing to find out is if the blower motor for the fan is working or not. On the Honda's, if the blower motor isn't working then the air conditioning won't work.

if the blower motor isn't working it could be that the motor is seizing up.

if the motor works, check the temperature control knob. the knobs have a history of stripping out or cracking. it could be that the temp knob indicates "cold" but is actually set on "hot" so that the a/c is ineffective.

just some thoughts based on your description. to get finer, you'll have to be more specific about the "once in a while" when its not working--what are the conditions--temperature, vehicle speed, time in use, other systems in use etc.

hope that helps

If you have trouble with the AC being intermittent and sometimes the buttons don t light or won t stay lit,its probably the same issue mine was having, the ac control(the thing with the knobs)is bad.Just get the whole bezel clock knobs and all at a junkyard. and plug it in.The reason for this is it s hard to take apart without breaking something, and there are 2 almost un-noticeable fits of clocks, and the bezel is different. The old style clock wont fit the new style bezel. There is a hidden screw behind the clock to remove the bezel.
