Question:
Why are civics so popular?

I found a similar question, but all the answers were by people who complemented those rice-burners. Three points I have:
1. If you want to race, wouldn't you want a car that has more hp than a lawnmower?
2. Don't you want your car to be unique? So why buy a car that has "aftermarket" parts at Wal-Mart?
3. Don't you live in America? Or do we suddenly love the country that bombed Pearl Harbor? We nuked Japan, and I think they are getting back at us with anime and their car imitations. For now, at least, we say the pledge of allegiance to the USA flag, not the rising sun.

I don't know why either. Civics suck! Any foreign-made automobile is a piece of plastic crap. Cheaply built forever! It takes true American muscle to make a car! I refuse to buy an import. I've drove them...and they suck! I have only owned American-made cars. They seem to have a better quality all the way around. They last longer, look better, and have better statistics all the way around. I absolutely back you 100% on this topic! It's an absolute disgrace to see these clunking pieces of plastic buzzing down the road. At least people like you and myself have the knowledge of vehicles to know what a real car is! Keep up the good work! I am sure that there are plenty of people like us out there that feel the same way. Some people are just ignorant. Jap-crap should be vanished forever!

Well first off your question shows your stupidity. Yes I have a Civic. No its not the "rice burner" which even I hate. It has a fully built engine that puts out over 600 HP on 25 PSI. the total I have put into the car is under $25,000. Now lets compare HP for dollars. The closest american cars that produce that power are the Shelby GT 500 Mustang which is 500 HP, BUT retails at the dealership for about $70,000. Then theres the Corvette Z06 which also retails in the $70,000 range. Now as for "old school" muscle cars yeah they are nice, but an engine alone to propel the cars down the track that my car has ran in the 1/4 mile alone costs more than $18,000 JUST FOR THE MOTOR! Now to put that into perspective my car is a 99 Civic that has a FULL interior, power steering, A/C, a complete system, gets 24 MPG, and runs high 9's and low 10's in the 1/4 mile. OH its also a daily driver. You WILL NOT see too many muscle cars that run that that people drive everyday. And to correct your thinking about the whole "buy American" thing, did you know there are just as many Honda, Mazda, Nissan, Subaru, and Toyota plants in the U.S. as there are GM, Ford, and Dodge? Also about 85% of parts for the "Big 3" automakers are made in foreign countries. So basically the distribution of parts for the "import" automakers and the "domestic" automakers are the same. So the only real question is why would you pay for a vehicle like a Ford knowing that if you bought a Honda or Toyota you would not only save money, but get a better quality vehicle. Your thinking is "old school" in itself, you really don't understand the way these companies do business. Why do you think Ford is shuting down so many plants and offering buyouts to ALL of its present employees? THEY ARE LOOSING MONEY. Unfortunatly the American automakers are also stuck in this old school form of thinking and they REFUSE to make a vehicle that the consumer actually wants. Did you know that the Ford F-150 lost its title as "america's best selling truck" last year to the Toyota Tundra? Also the Dodge Ram 1500 sales were down 31% from 3 years ago. OH and just so you know the "Mustang" in Tokyo Drift had a Nissan Skyline engine in it. That's how bad the Mustang motor was.

Q: If you want to race, wouldn't you want a car that has more hp than a lawnmower?

A: Would you use a soccer ball to play a basket ball? A stock civic is designed to serve basic family transportation needs. It has a very good gas mileage, reliability and resale value. PLUS, civic is one of many cars that is easily customized, tuned and modified to produce more than 500hp for much cheaper than the full price of a Dodge Viper.

Q: Don't you want your car to be unique? So why buy a car that has "aftermarket" parts at Wal-Mart?

A: It prooves my first point that Civic is obviously easily modded. However, car enthusiast (aka racer) will not waste their extra buck$$$ on an aftermarket products. There are many high quality products such as HKS, K&N, neuspeed, etc.... I feel sorry for your lack of knowledge.

Q: Don't you live in America? Or do we suddenly love the country that bombed Pearl Harbor? We nuked Japan, and I think they are getting back at us with anime and their car imitations. For now, at least, we say the pledge of allegiance to the USA flag, not the rising sun.

A: Don't you know most of toyotas and hondas are now built in USA? go to dealer website look at their inventory and find the VIN number. For toyota it will say something 1TN4.... and for honda it will say 1HGC.... the first digit explains the country code: 1=USA,2=CANADA,3=MEXICO,J=JAPAN, etc... Now, look at your Ford or Chevy car they might be made in Mexico now. Dropped your jaw already?

Q: Maybe true. What is the japanese comparison to the Shelby Mustang GT500? Or the Blue Devil Corvette? Or the Dodge Viper? Answer: NONE.

A: WRONG!!!! Nissan Nismo Skyline GT R34, Toyota Castrol Supra Twin Turbo and many more. Think about it: if their technology allow you to produce more HP from a 3.0 V6 engine, why would you burn your money on gasoline? I guess you would also use your extra money to burn some "rice".

Additionally, who's currently dominating the Formula 1 championship which is obviously a good place for engine ultimate testing and showdown? Toyota, Honda, BMW, AMG Mercedez, or may be Renault. Sadly, there's no Ford, nor chevy, nor dodge. Why? go find the answer yourself.

Quoted from wikipedia: "In 2007 the Heat Treatments Drag Skyline GT-R driven by Reece McGregor of New Zealand, broke the world record for the fastest AWD over a 1/4 mile with a 7.57 at 305.96 km/h (190.11 mph) at the Willowbank Dragway in Australia, a record previously held by the HKS Skyline GT-R with a 7.67"

My statement: looking at the past will never move you forward!!!!! So wake up from your stupidity, ignorance and prejudice. It's globalization and free market era, so grow up; learn from it, invent something nice for the future and STOP nagging, crying and complaining like a little baby girl.

I have drive Pickup Trucks my whole driving life. *9 years* So I'm still somewhat young enough to answer this question.

I test drove a 06 Civic after their redesign.

I am 6 feet tall, and the car has enough head room.

The car felt like a glove wrapped around me.

The car was very responsive and very VERY Comunicative about the vehicle/road. And the base motor was down right spunky. *going from a 05 F.150 with the 5.4 liter, that was saying something!*

The car just oozed "COOL" From that instrument cluster, felt like I was in K.I.T.T.

It looks pretty cool to.

It has a very very good crash test rating, SUPURBE Reliability, and relatibley low ownership cost. and it's easy to part ANYWHERE.

And like you mentioned, their is a HUGE Aftermarked crowd for the vehicle, even at walmart. ***I HATE THE NOISEY MUFFLERS THAT SOUND WEAK! GIVE ME A HEMI EXHAUST NOTE!***

But I am with you their. Why buy a $24,000.00 car and put $30,000.00 into it to outrun a $55,000.00 Corvette when you could just buy the Vett and keep the waranty!?!

NOW! I'm not all praise, I didn't buy it after all.

It's small! It feels great driving, but cargo room is much smaller then other cars about the same size, such as a Cobalt. *Go Chevy!* And it's a lot lower to the ground then say a Focus which made it hard to get in and out of. *Woo Hoo, I DRIVE FORD!... Escape, needed more cargo room unfortunatley... And I had to pull a trailer, a lite one.*

They are one of the top 5 most stoled/broked into vehicles in the country EVERY YEAR!

and not to mention, EVERYBODY HAS ONE!

Final counterpoint, they feel like the engineers really wanted to please you. The seats were perfect, the dash felt high quality, and the shifter was OOoooh... So sweet! It just felt like somebody stayed up at night thinking about the little details. Compared to my mom's old cavaliers, these were soild gold! The cavalier, a good car, but very cheep. Lousy ride, no feeling in the controls, lousy motor *Pre 2002's.* So even tough I'm all for Detroit, if I was to buy a small car for myself and not worrying about passengers/cargo, the Civic would be top on my list. ***I would stay away from the Corolla, to dowdy according to motor trend and car and driver .

P.S. hondab16tuner - That statment about the F.150 is not true. The Tundra did not outsell the F.150, not by a margine. The F Series *Abiet, F.250's 350's and the like also* Sell at nealry a million a year. The Tundra's sales capacity is in the 500,000 range. It may be Truck of the Year for Motor Trend, but it is not the sales champ.

Peace.

A Civic is about the slowest car I have ever driven (and I have owned hundreds of cars). If I need to get somewhere reliably everyday (even IF the car has a bunch of problems and seems to be on its last leg) I would choose a civic all day. It almost takes a .50 cal bullet to the engine block or a roadside bomb to stop the "little civic that could". I stay away from Accords because of notoriously bad transmissions.

Aside from any Subaru, Civics are probably the best cars in the world in terms of reliability.

I am a civic owner myself. A lot of the reason that civics are so popular is due to the fact you can do a lot to them, and you won't have to sell your first born. I really don't have a preference myself between american muscle and import tuners. I like cars in general. So I am not going to give a one sided answer. 1: Civic's are very easy to modify and you can swap just about any honda engine into it.( With slight modification of coarse.)

2: Performance and oem(original equipment manufacturer) replacement parts are cheap in comparison to other makes and models.

3: Honda civics are very reliable. Mine is at 200,000+ and showing no signs of quitting any time soon.

4: The gas mileage is great. I have a 1988 Honda civic crx hf. This thing in 1988 was getting 37 mpg(miles per gallon) in the city and 47 mpg on the highway. It doesn't matter what kind of car.... That's great mileage even by todays standards.

Me personally, I used to hate honda. My first crx was given to me. I drove the piss out of it and it kept on going. Plus the handle great even with stock suspension. Mostly because they are so light.

Don't get me wrong I still love the feel of smashing the throttle pedal in an 8.3 second V-8 monster and having it give you a sore neck for three days, but you just can't have them as your daily driver any more. The fuel prices are to high for that. (unless you have a bottomless bank account)

When it comes to horse power there is no replacement for displacement.

However the reason imports are running times that muscle cars are is simple. Power to weight ratio. Of coarse a V-8 is going to produce way more horse power than a civic. But the civic weighs one third of what most older steel bodied cars. So they don't need to produce near as much horse power to get the same results.

the honda civic is the most customizable car on the market. to answer your other questions not many ppl actually race civics anymore you would have to dump alot of money into it to make it go fast. mine runs only an 11.556 1/4 mile. on the other hand i do have a hot rod 56 bel aire that runs 8.77 all day long. the reason most ppl have civics (other than the 35-40 mpg) is that hey face it they are fun as hell to drive. also everyone is mistaken about civics 99% of honda civics are built in canada not japan. i dont remember canada starting pearl harbor sorry

1. My lawnmower has 10 horsepower, and it's a big lawnmower. Hate to break it to you, but very few people race Civics.

2. What, those "chrome" plastic hubcaps? Those fit any car.

3. Yeah, we should all buy Neons and Cavaliers, everybody knows those cars are built well.

I've never owned a Honda, but Jesus Christ, the guy who asked this question is **** stupid.

"hondab16tuner" just owned the hell outta you, I personally love Civic's just because there cheap to mod and get a couple more horsepower but just because I want more horsepower doesn't make me a ricer or a wanna be racer, I just want to improve my car for my own personal preference and not to show off to anyone. A Civic can get over 300 HP and still be a nice economy car getting 32 mpg or maybe even more.

here is the deal i have owned mitsubishi, 2 fords, 5 or 6 chevys, toyota, and a honda. dont get me wrong i love chevys but hondas are reliable as hell. I was getting 39 to the gallon(cant beat that) it looked good and was quick enough(the only parts i bought at walmart was wiper blades and oil) soooo think cost of ownership and resale value.

because there cheap. takes alot of money to get a honda into 10's or 11's but iv had a few in the 12's for very cheap. a 12 second daily driver that gets 30mpg for under 4k doesnt sound bad to me. dont get me wrong, my lt1 transam was fun too... but my honda spanked it.

its all power to weight ratio buddy

I think that civics are so popular because they look cool

but they are the most stolen car and there a really expensive car especially if it is a hybrid all and all it's a cool car and it's a good family car.
