The ignition switch is composed of several components. It sounds like the electrical component is bad. I had this happen to my 1993 accord ex. After I start the car, I have to hold the key between position 2 (on) and position 3 (starting car). I had to drive while holding the key in, otherwise the engine would cut out.

Your radio, lights, and horn work...as if the key was in position 1. In any event, I'd blame the ignition switch before blaming the car has a short.

It has nothing to do with the timing belt!

The ignition switch is a common issue with Hondas when they get to that 12-18 year old point and lots of miles. You probably have near 200k if not more, right? Try disconnecting the battery (-) terminal and crank the key back and forth several dozen times. This effectively cleans the contacts somewhat. once you do this, reconnect the battery and see if it improved. If it did, you can be reasonably sure it is the switch.

Other things to check: corroded battery terminals, all the engine grounds in place

I also have a vtech engine with the comparable concern. the challenge became low voltage on the vtech oil change/sensor I took it off and wiped clean it whether I could replace it quickly cus that became basically a brief answer. yet another ingredient ought to be the oil be sure it has the excellent quantity and the excellent oil wich is 5w30. stable success guy

>>> if i let go of the key nothing will work

Sounds like your ignition switch is broken.

I have seen this problem several times on this year and model and it was the ign. switch causing the issue.
